Jack's eye surgery

Jack was born with a droopy eyelid.  He has been seeing Dr. McVey since he was about 4 months old. We have always known that he would need a corrective surgery to help him look symmetrical.  We saw Dr. McVey in early spring and he said he was comfortable doing the surgery any time.  He said we should pray about it, and just let him know when we felt it was going to be the right time.  A couple of weeks later, Damon took Jack to a cub scout activity.  There he was introduced to the stake president.  The President lost his vision a couple of years ago due to a basketball injury, and he has also has a droopy eyelid.  He was being friendly, and mentioned to Jack that they had twin eyes.  Jack looked shocked!  From there on out, he was always looking at himself in the mirror, and commenting on his "down eye", as he called it.  He was pretty self conscious of it.  We decided that it was the right time to go ahead and have the surgery.  With him starting Kindergarten, we didn't want him to develop any kind of negative feelings about his self image.

 Home and recovered. He was so cute telling people about his experience.  He would say " well before I had my eye surgery, I had 1 down eye, and 1 up eye."  " Now I have 2 up eyes"

The surgery was really a piece of cake. Hardly any recovery at all. He had some swelling for a few weeks, and he had to wait for his stitches to fall out before he could go back to the pool, but other than that, it was painless!  We think it really turned out great!  One handsome boy!
